Costa Rica has an excellent system of Public Busses. You can get to almost anyplace in the country very inexpensively. You can get a free bus schedule at the Tourism Office at Plaza de la Cultura.

Always take an Orange taxi when leaving the airport and a red taxi everywhere else. Taxies are required to use a meter. Make sure it is running when your ride starts. If not ask the driver "ponga la Maria, por favor".  Phone numbers for San José Taxis:
